Activities in Greyton

There are well marked walks in Greyton, ranging from an easy stroll through the aromatic fynbos to a two or three day hike.

One of the more well-known trails is the one day hike across the Riviersonderend Mountains between Greyton and McGregor, for which a permit is required, with plenty of crystal clear drinking water and pools for swimming along the way.

Greyton has an equestrian centre at Silky Oaks Eco-Resort, the local Greyton campsite, offering livery, horse riding lessons for novices and trail rides through the fynbos, in the mountains, or along the river. Greyton’s tennis courts, next to the village green, are very popular, and one can rent bicycles on which to explore our lanes in safety as maximum speed limit in Greyton is 40 km/h.

For bowling enthusiasts, Greyton Bowling Club is of particular interest for visiting bowling teams for midweek or weekend tournaments. Bridge, Yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Line dancing, Tai Chi and Chi Gung are all offered locally, and you can treat yourself to an absolutely blissful Ayurvedic or Aromatherapy massage, or Kinesiology or Reiki therapy session in the beautiful, serene surroundings of several local healing centres.

Our stretch of Riviersonderend River offers swimming, canoeing and angling, and 4×4 trails are available on a few of the nearby farms. If your idea of activity is just to chill out with a book on the banks of the river or under an oak on the commonage, browse our interesting shops and art galleries, or hang out at one of our vibey, local coffee shops or restaurants, Greyton will not disappoint you either. In fact, Greyton itself is an activity that will have you coming back for more!

Our famous Greyton Saturday morning market on the village green is not to be missed, where you can breakfast on lemon curd pancakes or an array of home-baked fare, purchase locally-produced goods, ride in an old-fashioned horse cart, and chat to all our interesting local characters!

We have plenty of regular community events, fairs and festivals: Rose Fair in October,  Winter Festival in July, Dirtopia weekend in May, Book Club Festival, Greyton Genadendal Classics,  Greyton Transition town Trash to Treasure Festival, Yoga Sanga Festival etc… Contact us for more detailed information on events in Greyton.
